Consulting | ApproachWe treat each project as a unique case. The detailed approach, specific requirements and decisions on method and analytical tools to be used are worked out in dialogue with the client. We strive to maintain this close contact during the course of the project. The methodology ultimately depends on the complexity and nature of any specific project. On a broad level, the steps below convey a typical consultation process.
Definition of the problem and objectiveAn initial consultation and review forms the first step in establishing a working relationship with the client. The objective and areas of study are discussed. We listen to the client's requirements and establish project boundaries - what will be included in the study and its possible limitations. This phase may be relatively short if highly specific and easily defined tasks are requested. In contrast, a more extensive process of identifying a problem may constitute the main objective of the entire consultation process.
Draft proposalA proposal will be drafted that sets out the background of the project and describes the work to be carried out in more detail. Other information included are for example the method, the expected timeline and a breakdown of the costs and fees for the study. For longer projects, the proposal may also outline the extent of interim reporting and any milestones for the work in progress.
Desk research, field work and analysisThe details of the investigative approach depend on the complexity of the consultancy assignment. The first part of a study may be based on desk research, followed by for example a set of meetings, telephone or personal in-depth interviews, observations or questionnaire-based surveys. We make use of a broad spectrum of secondary information and data sources, including industry data, cutting-edge business-school research and a client's own documentation. The fieldwork is followed by a critical analysis and interpretation of findings.
Reporting and presentation of findingsUpon completion, our task is to translate the conclusions of the study into practical solutions, relating to the original brief. Findings and recommended actions or change will be presented in writing and/or orally.
ImplementationOur initial investigation and reporting may serve as an important basis for continued dialogue with the client and further assistance during the implementation phase of the project.
